Message from the Principal
I am delighted to announce that Discovery School will be fully open in September 2014. Our impressive building, which you will have seen grow out of the ground over the last few months, is now being kitted out with state of the art science and engineering equipment and will be handed over to us in the Spring. We will be organising tours for our prospective students and their parents/carers and all interested parties and stakeholders as soon as we can.
In the meantime, Newcastle 6th Form College have kindly allowed us to set up the Discovery Room, in which we will hold our weekly Wednesday Open Evenings. This is located on Prince Street, opposite the Discovery School site between 6pm and 7pm. Perfectly located for a tantalising view of Discovery School as Sir Robert McAlpine finish the final touches to the school.
I would like to personally thank Sir Robert McAlpine for realising the vision we have had for Discovery School for such a long time and making it a reality. This is an amazing learning environment for the North East’s young engineers, scientists, technicians and computer whizz kids of the future.
We are now steaming ahead in preparation for our September 2014 opening. Staff recruitment is well under way and a number of key appointments have or are about to be made. We have space for 180 students in our 14-16 provision and 180 students in our post-16 provision. Places, as you can imagine, are well sought after. I recommend that you apply early and come along to one of our Open Evenings at your earliest opportunity to find out more.
Please do not hesitate to contact me directly via firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions. I have been known to reply to an enquiry at 3.00am in the morning, such is my dedication to and passion for Discovery School and the young people whose lives I know we are going to change. This is truly the best job in the world!
Dr Wendy Allen, Principal
